Remaining weaknesses: options to pick from

Fable and Opus each brainstormed separately; this merges their ideas. Pick one letter per item, or combine where noted. ★ marks the recommended pick. Effort: S = small, M = medium, L = large.

2. Slow first frame on a cold GPU (~1.8 s)

All ~60 shaders compile in one blocking step at frame 0.

  • A. Compile in the background. Use the GPU's parallel shader compile (compileAsync), with a timeout and the current warm-up kept as a safety net. Visitor: the scene appears noticeably sooner and the page never freezes. Effort M; no bundle cost.
  • B ★. Compile in three slices. Spread the compile over a few frames, start the ignition once it's done, and preload the scene code earlier. Visitor: the poster lasts a bit less and there is no single long freeze. Effort S–M; lowest risk. A can come later on top.
  • C. Fewer shaders. Merge the material variants, so there is less to compile at all. Effort M–L; the most invasive.

Optional add-on to any of these: show the ignition "crank" on the poster while it compiles, so the wait reads as starting the engine.

3. The reading panel hides the scene

The panels sit at 94–98% opacity, and contrast rules lock that.

  • A ★. Time the scene to the gaps. Fire each scene payoff (the district relighting, the yard lifts, the mast strikes) in the open road between cards, and widen those gaps a little. Visitor: every big moment happens where it can be seen. Effort M; almost no JS.
  • B. "Look up" cue. A small idle hint in the top bar (e.g. "C · DASHCAM") that invites a full-screen look, plus slightly more see-through panels on hover where contrast still passes. Effort S; the cheapest option, but it doesn't change the default view.
  • C. Split screen on wide displays. At 1440 px and wider, the text takes a ~60% column and the scene keeps the rest. Effort L; a big layout change.

4. Empty left bay in the navbar (name not on the table)

  • A ★. Shift clock and odometer. A small instrument readout, e.g. 02:58 → 05:48 · KM 042 · EXIT 04, that ticks with your progress and matches the clock times already in the story. Effort S; +~0.4 KB.
  • B. Hint rotator. Cycles quiet tips: C · DASHCAM, ALT+↓ · NEXT EXIT (and the high-beam click if you want the easter egg hinted). Effort S; +~0.3 KB.
  • C. Rebalance the controls. Split the existing cabin controls across both bays, so nothing new is added. Effort S.

A and B also combine well as a two-line instrument cluster.

6. Visual nits

Each nit has its own fix, so you can pick per line.

  • Yard slides in at chapter entry. A ★: aim the yard from the camera's live position, so it doesn't slide. B: hold the yard lights until the camera has settled.
  • Far container stack looks like it's leaning. A ★: square the stacks to the road and cut the far stack to 3 tiers. B: turn the stacks toward the camera instead.
  • Pier crosses the billboard. A ★: raise the billboard only after the underpass has passed. B: move that pier inward.
  • Lamp cores read white instead of violet. A ★: a two-layer lamp, with a core kept below white and a violet glow around it. B: a colour-preserving tone curve; a bigger change, behind a flag.
  • High-beam flash too bright up close. A ★: lamps flare in their own red or amber instead of white, and the flare peaks at 120–250 m, not within 100 m. B: keep the colours and dip the exposure slightly during the flash.

7. Phones

Phones get no bloom at all, which is the main reason they look dim.

  • A ★. Brighten and stage.

    • Lift exposure and lamp gain on phones.
    • Brighten the mobile poster.
    • Bring overtakes nearer and add one guaranteed pass at each chapter entry.
    • Show one large transmitter instead of four thin masts.

Effort M; no cost on desktop.

  • B. Mini-bloom on capable phones. A light 3-shader bloom where the GPU allows, plus the overtake changes from A. Effort M; some phone GPU cost.

8. The end-credit closer (replacing name · title · location)

It lives in one string (AppShell.vue:299) and is typed in at sunrise. Your name can stay on the dashcam postcard, which is separate. Copy variants are listed under each option.

  • A. Shift handover (an original line, in the HUD's ops voice).
    1. HANDING OVER TO THE DAY SHIFT · 05:48 · NOTHING OUTSTANDING
    2. NOTHING PAGED · NOTHING BROKE · THE SUN CAME UP
    3. SHIFT LOG CLOSED · LIGHTS OFF, DOORS OPEN
  • B. A dawn quote (public domain, serif italic, with attribution).
    1. "There is more day to dawn. The sun is but a morning star." (Thoreau, Walden)
    2. "To travel hopefully is a better thing than to arrive." (R. L. Stevenson)
    3. "Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road." (Whitman)
    4. "Noaptea e un sfetnic bun" / "The night is a good counsellor." (Romanian proverb)
  • C. Trip computer. A rolling odometer built only from real content: TRIP COMPLETE · 8 EXITS · 3 BUILDS · 0 DATA LOST · 02:58 → 05:48. A variant adds the visitor's own drive time (YOUR TRIP · 6 MIN 12 S). Effort M; +~0.6 KB.

Fable recommends A-1 or A-2. Opus recommends B-1, Thoreau. C is the most polished option if you'd like something interactive.
